Electrostatic discharge today is one of the main causes of damage or complete failure of electronic components and finished products.

Even if damage due to electrostatic discharge does not immediately lead to complete failure of electronic components, they subsequently lead to degradation of component parameters, which in turn leads to gradual equipment failure or the occurrence of extremely difficult to recognize defects leading to various equipment failures.

For a static electricity discharge to occur, three factors must be present:

1. First, as a result of any impact on the component, a charge must appear.
2. Then, the condition of the product and the environment should contribute to its accumulation.
3. And finally, the charge must move at high speed from one object to another, which can occur as a result of contact or under the influence of an electric / electromagnetic field.

Although the discharge becomes tactilely or visually noticeable only at 3000 volts, only 100 volts is enough to damage the integrated circuit. This example clearly demonstrates that a discharge that is almost imperceptible to humans can damage an electronic component or significantly affect its performance and durability.

To avoid losses from static electricity during the production and assembly of electronic equipment, it is necessary to provide conditions for the constant drainage of electrostatic charge from people, tools and the workplace.
